The Tower
Faction Type: Magical order / arcane enforcers
Alignment/Outlook: Neutral (secretive, authoritarian leanings)
Symbol/Colors: Not yet described to the party
Overview
The Tower was a powerful and secretive magical order within the Realm of Lumis, feared and respected in equal measure. They served as arbiters of arcane law, bounty hunters, and enforcers, often tied closely to the Crown but always pursuing their own opaque agendas.
In Session 8, the party learned that the Tower is broken — not just as an institution, but as a binding force on magic itself. Magic now roams unshackled and unfettered, no longer constrained by the Tower’s control.
History
- The Tower enforced strict laws on magic use, requiring all arcane practitioners to be registered.
- Members held influential government posts, including magistrates and advisors. Voss Dain’s mother served as a high magistrate.
- Maintained elite bounty hunters and agents to track fugitives and unlicensed magic users.
- After Queen Athena’s coronation coup, she declared the Tower served her directly — though the Tower itself made no public acknowledgment.
- By Session 8, NPCs revealed that the Tower had collapsed, described as “broken” and its fall the unbinding of magic across the realm.
Goals & Motivations
(Past — before collapse)
- Maintain control over magic and those who wield it.
- Protect their influence within the royal court.
- Pursue their own secretive, undisclosed long-term agenda.
(Present — after collapse)
- Unknown; as an institution, the Tower no longer functions. Magic is free and unbound.
Notable Figures
- Master Eden – Last known leader of the Tower, identified by Signmonder as someone who may know the truth of the Crown’s curse.
- Zane Umbralight – Publicly recognized as an agent of the Tower.
- Voss Dain – Outwardly acted as an agent, though he hinted his loyalty was a facade.
- Voss’s Mother – Served as a high magistrate within the Tower.
- Eldvarr Ulfridsson – Once tied to the Tower; remembered being told, “your path leads from the Tower and then when it’s done, keep walking.” The party now suspects the Tower foresaw its collapse and was ensuring his safety — or warning him never to return.
